From June 21 to October 11, 2025, the Maison Carrée in Nay, France, is hosting a remarkable exhibition titled Jean Barthet, le prince des chapeaux (Jean Barthet, the Prince of Hats). This retrospective honors the life and work of Jean Barthet (1920–2000), one of the most celebrated French milliners of the 20th century, and is curated by his son, Alexandre Barthet.

A Legacy of Elegance
Jean Barthet, a native of Nay, began his career in Paris, where he quickly gained recognition for his innovative hat designs. His creations adorned the heads of some of the most iconic figures in fashion and cinema, including Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, and Michael Jackson.
The exhibition at Maison Carrée showcases over forty years of Barthet's work, featuring a curated selection of hats, photographs, sketches, and film clips. Visitors can explore the evolution of his designs and gain insight into the craftsmanship that defined his legacy.

Reduced rate: €3.30 (students, job seekers, under 25s, Route Historique pass holders)

Guided Tours: Available from July 15 to August 17 on Tuesdays and Fridays at 15:00; outside summer months by reservation for groups of 5 or more at €2.80 per person
